P. 3 and 4 Sports Day in March

On their marks

Making his effort to throw the ball to the farthest place

The Sports Day is a school activity that gathers students, teachers and parents. Students can make use of the skills that they learnt in Physical Education lessons. The good sportsmen are awarded. Those who are not that good at sports can become the cheerleaders of their class. The school shares the school activity photographs on the school website. Parents and students can browse the photographs or even develop their favourites.
Date back to my school life, things are more complicated. The school developed the school activity photographs and posted them on a board. Students who wanted to order photos have to mark down the photo codes and the school would develop for them. It took at least two weeks for you to get your photos.
Students have their Song PSP, Ipods or mobile phones which allow them to browse their photos there. You can even set them as your wallpaper. It is easier to share the photos with your mates too.

HKU Short Clip

The clips are provided by my lecturer, Dr. Daniel Churchill. According to my experience, the place is HKU Main Campus on the Hong Kong Island, Pokfulam. At the end of the clip, there is a clip of Dr. D. Churchill's students.

Limitations and advantages of handhelds on the educational aspect

Limitations of handhelds on educational aspect

  1. Although it is more common to use handhelds now, they are mainly for commercial and personal use. It is too costy for primary and secondary students to effort one.
  2. It is not necessary for a primary or secondary students to use handhelds to handle their assignments. Their assignments are still paper work. Their IT skills may not be good enough to use handhelds.
  3. The status of handhelds can be unstable. There may be cases of losing files and out of order which may affect students' learning progress.

Advantages of handhelds on the educational aspect

  1. It is more convenient for students to take photos and go online immediately by using handhelds during field trips.
  2. Presentations with the help of computer software (e.g. powerpoints, authorware, director etc.), students and teachers can present their works in an more attractive way.
  3. Busy life in Hong Kong limited the reading time of students. With handhelds, they can read wherever they want.

Potential use of handhelds in the school library

  1. Powerpoint presentations
  2. File sharing by handhelds
  3. Stock taking by handhelds
  4. E-books reading on handhelds in the library

Mobile Technologies in Hong Kong

There are lots of stuffs to talk about concerning mobile technologies in Hong Kong. Once there was a survy saying that people in Hong Kong own the largest quantity of mobile phone in the world. However, in other developing countries, people may not see a mobile before. It is hard to understand why there is such a technology gap in the world.
